Rutgers School of Communications and Information’s hosts its fifth annual COMMchella

The Rutgers School of Communications and Information hosted their fifth annual COMMchella music festival Wednesday April 8th in The Yard.

The event featured live performances from Kaleb Cohen, Sam Tunkel & The Long Whiles, Shockwave, and BlüeCrüe.

It also offered career-focused opportunities, conversations with alumni, interview and resume workshops, and free Linkdeln headshots. The event also had free pizza, giveaways, a photo booth, and tabling from over 30 student organizations.

The event was organized by Communications majors giving students the chance get real life working experience.

Junior Sarah York felt grateful for the hands on experience, telling WRSU “this kinda felt like I was really thrown into the real world with it. Really collaborating with the retailers here and working with other students, and our sponsors, and our guests; and it was just a lot of real life experience you can’t always get in the classroom and I really appreciate that.”

Attendees also enjoyed the event. Senior, Sarah Werkmeister, said she enjoyed the music and atmosphere of the event.

“I always really like the event, I think live music is always super fun. Even if I’m just walking by and I hear it. I’m like, that’s just super, I don’t know. Not to glaze Rutgers, I’m glad that Rutgers has these fun events.”

Fellow attendee (and WRSU reporter) Brianna Beauvais came for a class but stayed for all COMMchella had to offer.

“My teacher said it was for extra credit, and I’m like, you know what it’s fine. Came here I got some free stuff which I thoroughly always enjoy”

The event was successful, although a crash happened across the street at Voorhees Mall halfway through the event. Beauvais said while the crash was unfortunate she still enjoyed the event.

“I really like it , theres a lot of marketing opportunities, a lot of things where I can grow. Overall the event was executed really well, just sucks that, like, a car accident happened and it diverted, Overall I did really like COMMchella I would probably be back next year.”

COMMchella is an annual event ran by Communications majors to promote communications and provide resources for students.
