Rutgers Baseball Drops Game 1 in Big Ten Tournament to Michigan

Rutgers Baseball was defeated tonight by the Michigan Wolverines 10-0 in 7 innings in their first game of the 2026 Big Ten Tournament.

There wasn’t much to be shown tonight from the Scarlet Knights as they were outhit 12-1, and Michigan really got out in front right from the start. The lone hit on the night for Rutgers belonged to Ryan Jaros in the 5th inning.

Vincent Borghese left it all on the mound and kept Rutgers within striking distance as long as he could. Borghese totaled 102 pitches tonight in 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 7 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 3 batters and struck out 2. Finn Haines, Dallin Harrison and Henry Radbill had come on the mound in relief, and that cracked the door wide open. 5 runs were given up on 5 hits, with just 2 outs recorded.

Needing the mercy rule to be brought out in the first game that Rutgers plays in this tournament isn’t the outcome the Scarlet Knights were hoping for. It’ll now be do or die the rest of the way.

Rutgers will look to keep its season alive tomorrow afternoon when they face the loser of tonight’s game between Ohio State and Washington. Anthony Palumbo and Chase Jacoby will have the call live from Omaha beginning at 1:45PM Eastern Time. Catch it all on 88.7FM and online at wrsu.org.
