Broadcasting through the decades

WRSU Goes Live

One of the pioneering radio stations in the country, WRSU made its debut on the airwaves as an AM station (680 AM) on April 26, 1948.

AM Broadcasting Available

The original AM transmitter system allowed listeners in and around the student centers and in dorms on the College Avenue and Douglass campuses to tune in.

AM Era Continues

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the station thrived, broadcasting a dynamic mix of pop music, news, and sports, cementing its role as the source for entertainment and information for the Rutgers community.

Going Free-Form

The station made a deliberate shift to include album-oriented progressive and free-form elements into its programming, inviting a more eclectic listening experience to its audience.

Packing Our Bags

WRSU relocated its current headquarters at 126 College Avenue following the completion of the Rutgers Student Center. The original studio location is the building that currently serves as the Bildner Center on Jewish Life.

Welcome WRSU-FM

The station redefined its reach by transitioning from AM to WRSU-FM. This upgrade extended its broadcast range to cover a 20-mile radius beyond the Rutgers campus, significantly broadening its audience and influence.
