On Wednesday afternoon, a car heading north on College Ave slammed through the bike lane and fence before traveling around 350 feet across Voorhees Mall before crashing into parked cars in a lot behind Van Dyck Hall and stopping.
Two students were seen talking to police and emergency medical technicians shortly after the incident, with one heard telling the officers “[the accident] could have killed me,” although it did not initially appear that anyone was seriously injured. A university spokesperson said that the driver sustained and a student suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital.
WRSU spoke to Zine McGregor, a junior who witnessed the incident. “I was standing by the Honeygrow restaurant, and the lady was driving on the sidewalk,” McGregor told WRSU. “She drove past the bikes, she hit the bikes and scooters and then came diagonally and basically broke half of the fence. And then someone fell and she just kept driving diagonally down the road.”
In a video obtained by WRSU, a black Porsche Cayenne is seen careening through Voorhees Mall through the fence and bike path.
Multiple photos show the trail the vehicle left in the grass, including shrapnel and debris from the car.

In another video obtained by WRSU, the Cayenne is seen with its hood open and crashed into another car in the parking lot behind Van Dyck Hall. The car is seen with its doors open and airbags deployed.

Rutgers Police have yet to post an update on what may have caused the condition of the driver, but a video posted anonymously to social media shows an officer conducting a sobriety test on a woman in the parking lot behind Van Dyck.
A university spokesperson said that the driver of the Cayenne “began to experience a vehicle failure and veered right onto College Avenue,” and that they subsequently lost control of the vehicle causing her to cross the intersection of Hamilton Street and College Avenue onto the city sidewalk.”
A portion of College Ave. was closed for a few hours after the incident, but is now open. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
