Denzel Curry Electrifies Philadelphia Crowd on North American Tour

Promoting his latest mixtape, King of the Mischievous South, Vol. 2, rapper Denzel Curry performed at Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of a 13-leg North American tour.

Curry brought three artists with him on tour: CLIP, 454, and Kenny Mason. Shania McBean, also known as CLIP, opened the show with an eclectic performance that won over crowd members who were unfamiliar with her music. The New York-born rapper got the crowd involved and flashed her personality with a couple of songs, before shocking the crowd by bringing out rapper Matt Ox, who had recently been released from prison.

Following CLIP was one of my new favorite artists, 454. The Orlando, Florida native, Willie Wilson, has several songs with his fellow Sunshine State native, Denzel Curry, but instead performed songs off his new project Casts of a Dreamer. The set was electric, combining his unique style and flow with the booming concert speakers. It made for an incredible atmosphere at a concert hall that consisted of many who likely didn’t know who he was prior to the show.

The final opener of the night was Kenny Mason, opting to perform many songs from his recent album Angel Eyes. The penultimate act had the crowd rowdy, causing a large mosh pit to form with every song.

All the openers were great, but from the moment Denzel Curry stepped onto the stage, it was clear just how much of a prolific performer he is. Curry exploded into his first song and immediately had the crowd the loudest it had been all night.

The setlist was impeccable: Curry didn’t miss a single hit, even reaching deep into his catalog and performing some lesser-known gems. Songs like “STILL IN THE PAINT” and “HOT ONE” stood out as songs that got infectious pops from the crowd, and the inclusion of “Walkin” off of Curry’s last project provided a soulful, introspective switch-up that broke up the energy of the set.

Another fun addition was Curry’s performance of “DIET_” to the beat of Kendrick Lamar’s “tv off.” A mashup originally composed by @spectre0799 on X has turned into a staple on the tour and a more than welcome addition. Curry performed his national hit, “CLOUT COBAIN | CLOUT CO13AIN,” as the penultimate song.

Denzel Curry and company are currently making their way out west with a handful of shows left on the tour. They will then take a month-long break before embarking on a 14-leg European tour.
