On Wednesday, July 22, Sports Director Will Carmenaty and Assistant Sports Director Chase Jacoby sat down with Former Rutgers RHP, and Washington Nationals draft prospect Zack Konstantinovsky.
Konstantinovsky, who was selected 406th overall in the 14th round 2026 MLB Draft, heard his name called after a dominant start to his career in the state of New Jersey. During recruitment, he was ranked a top 10 overall and RHP prospect in New Jersey by Prep Baseball Report.
In his Junior Year at North Brunswick, he totaled 120 strikeouts, 2 walks, 9 runs, 7 of them earned and a 0.73 ERA, earning the honors of NJ.com Pitcher of the Year. In his 3 years of varsity baseball, he had 278 strikeouts, 21 walks, and a 0.95 ERA.
With all his accolades accomplished throughout High School, Zack chose to stay home and represent the state of New Jersey to play for Rutgers Baseball. Right from the start, he felt at home. In his collegiate debut in February 2024 against Winthrop, Konstantinovsky struck out his first 4 batters of the matchup. Later in the 4th inning, he had given up 3 runs. He said it was his “welcome to college moment.”
His freshman year at Rutgers, he only had 34 total innings pitched, with 20 Earned Runs, 37 Strikeouts and a 5.49 ERA. Shortly after, he had dealt with the worst encounter a pitcher could ever deal with. Zack had undergone Tommy John Surgery late in the season in 2024 and caused him to miss the entire 2025 season. He mentioned the battle it was to come back. During his road to recovery, Zack K had told the crew, “I learned a lot about myself, and the game of baseball… It made me a better baseball player.”
Konstantinovsky followed that up with a strong 2026 season as a Redshirt Sophomore. He had emerged to become the true number one starter for Head Coach Steve Owens and Pitching Coach Ryan Fecteau. With 83 Strikeouts, 21 walks, and 43 total earned runs, Zack K had a lot to be proud of coming back from a major surgery, and representing his home state, giving everything he had every time he stepped on the mound.
This journey has led him into the Washington Nationals organization, where he looks to make his name known in a very large pool of young talent down in DC.
