Hard to believe, but it’s been three decades sine the release of “A Boy Named Goo,” the breakthrough album that made the Goo Goo Dolls a household name in the mid 1990s. To mark the album’s 30th anniversary, the band is out with a special edition of the album that includes 34 tracks on two discs, and features several previously unreleased live tracks.
Lead singer Johnny Rzeznik has been making the rounds with the new collection coming out, and stopped by the WRSU studios recently to talk about it.
Rzeznik joined WRSU DJ Ava Bandelli – host of “Music for the Masses,” heard Fridays from 1-2 pm – to talk about the album, his career, and a wide range of other topics including songwriting, streaming, collaboration, and even how he finds new music these days. (Spoiler alert: college radio!)
