Freshta Taeb, a candidate running for New Jersey’s 12th State Assembly District, joined the Rutgers Women’s Political Caucus at Douglass Student Center on October 8th. She is a mental health professional and faculty member at Virginia Tech’s School of Public and International Affairs, and has previously worked in education, media, veterans’ advocacy, and disaster relief.
She spoke to the Rutgers Women’s Political Caucus about her campaign and her journey as a woman running for political office as a challenger to incumbent candidates. Taeb emphasized the importance of her hyphenated identity and how it has shaped the many experiences leading up to her run for office.
Taeb provided WRSU’s Keya Raval with an interview following the event. In this interview, Keya asks Taeb about her experiences as a female candidate in today’s political climate, how she hopes to tackle the issues of importance in her district, and advice for current students.
The Taeb for Assembly policy positions highlight funding for education and public schools, an affordable economy, and support for veterans. WRSU reached out to the three other candidates in LD-12 for comment and did not hear back.
