Assembly leaders gave updates and reminders ahead of Thanksgiving break at their RUSA meeting on Thursday.
RUSA President Christopher Godoy noted his meeting with the student government of Stevens Institute of Technology to make connections between student leaders across New Jersey universities.
Internal Affairs Chair Adam Halperin announced that applications for several position appointments have closed, with results to be announced at the next meeting. Godoy also noted the assembly’s liaison to the Big Ten Conference will likely also be announced at the next meeting.
During time for public comments, student representatives from NJPIRG Students, an organization promoting student civic engagement, discussed a recently passed referendum to add $13.01 to the student fee to increase funding to NJPIRG’s Rutgers-New Brunswick chapter. Speakers said they hope to work with the assembly to learn which social issues are most important to the student body.
President of Rutgers Hillel Amit Bitanksy, an organization for Jewish student life on campus, also addressed the assembly, discussing his work with Godoy and hopes to work more closely with the assembly. Bitansky stressed the importance of collaboration and breaking down barriers within the diverse student body.
RUSA leaders reminded the assembly that there will not be a meeting next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday. No new legislation was heard.
