Rutgers Football vs Miami (OH) Staff Picks and Predictions

Week 2 of the 2025 season is here, and Rutgers has themselves another non-conference MAC opponent, in Miami (OH).

Rutgers is looking to go to 2-0 and have a much better performance, after many weren’t all too satisfied with last week’s 34-31 win over the Ohio Bobcats. Here are the predictions and picks ahead of the matchup from our staff here at WRSU Sports:

Phil Jaccoma, Sports Director:

Score Prediction: Rutgers wins 31-17

This game shouldn’t be anywhere near as close as last week’s. Rutgers offense will continue to shine against a MAC opponent, but the Scarlet Knights’ defense will still struggle as they continue to gel. Miami’s offense is incredibly lackluster, but I foresee some early TD’s slipping through the cracks.

Will Carmenaty, Program Director/Assistant Sports Director:

Score Prediction: Rutgers wins 45-14

Miami Ohio is yet another very good MAC opponent. The Rutgers defense still needs lots of work to do to improve and this is a great opportunity for them to gel before Big ten play. I see a much improved week from the defense, especially the front 4. The offense will undoubtedly continue to show up and do its thing, so Rutgers will win comfortably.

Sean Newcomb, Contributing Analyst:

Score Prediction: Rutgers wins 37-17

I expect Rutgers to play with a chip on their shoulder after its scare against Ohio. Miami is going to play a very conservative game and I do not think they are prepared for what is in store. The Scarlet Knights defense will have a get-right game against an incredibly inexperienced Redhawk offense and Rutgers is going to move to 2-0 and do so by running the ball and dominating the game defensively.

Woody Silverstein, Contributing Analyst:

Score Prediction: Rutgers wins 45-21

I think that Miami (OH) is going to play a similar game to Ohio, but they are on paper a worse team and that will show. The Rutgers defense will look better as a result, and the offense will have a good day as well.

Noah Addeo, Contributing Analyst:

Score Prediction: Rutgers wins 35-17

After a way-too-close win against Ohio, the Knights will hopefully have a more comfortable win against Miami (OH). I think Rutgers’ efficient offense seen in last week’s game will carry over into this week, and any major defensive bumps will hopefully be ironed out as well.

Tyler Levy, Contributing Analyst:

Score Prediction: Rutgers wins 41-10

Rutgers offense looked like it was in mid season form in their week one game vs Ohio especially in the first half where they scored on every possession and only punted once the whole game. Against a Miami (OH) team that is coming off a 17-0 loss in Madison last Thursday, the Rutgers offense should be able to put a lot of points up on the board and will trust kicker Jai Patel to finish a drive if it stalls out. On the defensive side, the Rutgers defense should improve off their week one win. Miami (OH) was shutout last week. I think they do score but Rutgers holds them to 10 as the scarlet knights defense will improve in week 2 under a new system.

Moshe Golubtchik, Contributing Analyst:

Score Prediction: Rutgers wins 30-10

Rutgers offense should have no trouble with a Miami Ohio defense that gave up 350+ to Wisconsin last week. My concern is whether the defense, which faltered against Ohio last week will be able to rebound and stifle the Miami Ohio offense, but I think they should be able to do so, as Dequan Finn is certainly no Parker Navarro. Let’s just say, I think it’s telling that I can’t name anyone who has played at Miami Ohio more recently than 2004 and I doubt you can either (Dequan Finn doesn’t count, I already mentioned him)

Kickoff between Rutgers and Miami (OH) is set for 3:30PM Tomorrow Afternoon. There will be special Rutgers Countdown coverage live from the Rutgers Boardwalk at 2:30PM. Phil Jaccoma and Anthony Palumbo have the call beginning at 3:15PM. Listen live on 88.7FM and online at wrsu.org.
