Students gathered to watch “T-Boy [trans boy] Wrestling” in the College Ave Gym Tuesday, an event run by student organization Being Black and Queer.
The event saw eight trans student athletes, with stunt wrestler “Hitman” winning the three round tournament and a ceremonial belt.
Drag queen Miss Jucínda Love Juicy, or Miss Juice, emcee’d the event and did a halftime performance for attendees.
Jevani, the match judge and co-president of Being Black and Queer (BBQ), said they were surprised by the turn out for their first T Boy wrestling event. The event was based on a culture of T-Boy wrestling in New York City that BBQ wanted to bring to Rutgers, they said.
Tournament runner-up, Zilla, whose real name is Miyoung, said they loved competing and hope to do it again in a future event. Another wrestler, “The Clocker” (real name Sebastian), made it to the second round before being eliminated by Hitman, and said he surprised himself with his own performance.

Miss Juice spoke about her love for drag and showmanship, speaking with WRSU on she has performed for Rutgers before and is always impressed by the energy in students, including tonight.
An attendee praised the event as a point of stress-relief during the midterm season.
Co-president Jevani noted the other events BBQ holds to create community for queer Black students at Rutgers, including a ball next month that will be free to students.
