The 57th annual ‘Soup Bowl’ ends in 53-48 victory for the Marching Scarlet Knights

The 57th annual ‘Soup Bowl’ flag football game took place on Friday against the Rutgers Glee Club and the Pride of New Jersey, the Marching Scarlet Knights. The game was played in the Busch Campus Indoor Practice and Conditioning Facility, better known as “The Bubble.”

The Marching Scarlet Knights team was led by captains Joe Buono, Patrick Vocaturo and Jon Krishnasamy. The Glee Club team was led by captains Mark Sadlo, Justin Ford and Jakob Krombholz.

The Soup Bowl started to settle a dispute between the Glee Club and the Marching Scarlet Knights over the shared practice space, which was the Glee Club’s first. To settle the dispute, they played a flag football game, and what started as a humorous disagreement has evolved into a way to give back to the community.

To gain admission, people donate perishable goods, such as canned soup and fish, which are then given back to the people of New Brunswick. The donations were collected by National Honorary Music Fraternity, Mu Beta Psi at the front entrance of the bubble.

In addition, a pep band performed at the game on the sidelines, conducted by drum majors Devin Davis and Brittany Duarte of the Marching Scarlet Knights.

By halftime, the score was 34-20 with the Glee Club leading the way. However, by the second quarter, the MSK was able to turn it around with the winning mindset and ended up beating the Glee Club with 53-48 as the final score.
