Vice President for Continuing Studies and Distance Education Dr. Richard Novak announces retirement

After 35 years of service to Rutgers University, Dr. Richard Novak retires from his role as the Vice President for Continuing Studies and Distance Education. Novak has been with the Division of Continuing Studies since its inception in 1966, and the Vice President since 2013.

Dr. Novak led the development of Rutgers Online, which was essential to the University during the pandemic. He also managed a partnership that supports more than 20 fully online degree programs. Novak oversaw the development of Rutgers institutions such as the Lifelong Learning Center on Cook Campus, the Rutgers Makerspace, the Center for Continuing Professional Development, and the Rutgers Reading Program.

For over 25 years, Novak has been an associate professor in the Graduate School of Education. He has earned national recognitions for his leadership.

New Brunswick Chancellor Francine Conway said in a statement, “throughout his career, [Dr. Novak] has championed lifelong learning, supported students of all ages, and expanded access to education through innovation and dedication.”
