Last Wednesday, WRSU attended the #BeCOMM talk show at Rutgers University’s College Avenue campus. The annual event celebrates the Communication major at Rutgers and offers free activities for students and alumni.

Mark Beal, Assistant Professor of Practice at the Rutgers School of Communication & Information, organized the show with his public relations class.

“The #BeCOMM campaign was born from a simple idea: to raise the profile of the communication major and inspire undecided students,” Beal said in an exclusive interview with WRSU. “[When the show launched], we didn’t have a campaign name, an event or merchandise. Now, each semester, students take the campaign to the next level.”

Throughout the evening, notable alumni shared career insights while attendees enjoyed free merchandise, headshots and a live performance by singer-songwriter Jake Thistle, a Rutgers junior majoring in Communication.

Along with over 20 organizations, WRSU tabled to spread awareness about the station and how student involvement can foster career skills. Promotions Director Chloe Berwick and member Kayla Gonzales talked to students about DJ training, sports broadcasting, news reporting and other ways to get involved.
